London in the Olden Time, being a topographical and historical memoir of London, Westminster and Southwark, accompanying a pictorial map of the city and suburbs, as they existed in the reign of Henry VIII, before the dissolution of the monasteries, compiled from ancient documents and other authentic sources by William Newton, author of A Display of Heraldry. Published in 1855 in London for the author by Bell and Daldy, 186 Fleet Street. Very large Victorian wall map (approx 102cm by 136cm). This is a decorative map of London in the time of Henry VIII. There is extensive detail to the buildings, ships etc. It was engraved on copper by Thomas Sherratt and hand coloured. This is called a chromolithograph print. The hard cover book has a damaged spine which would need complete renovation. The map lies loose within the book. The folds of the map are discoloured. The book pages are foxed and discoloured. There is a library stamp on the title page. The book contains a full index to the map. preface, introduction and then a full description of London, Westminster and Southwark. The book is 120 pages long.
