Lorca and the Spanish Poetic Tradition - J.B. Trend. Published by Basil Blackwell, Hardback (no dust jacket) 1956. Federico Garcia Lorca (1898 - 1936), known as Federico Garcia Lorca was a Spanish poet, playwright, and theatre director. Garcia Lorca achieved international recognition as an emblematic member of the Generation of '27, a group consisting mostly of poets who introduced the tenets of European movements (such as symbolism, futurism, and surrealism) into Spanish literature. Garcia Lorca was assassinated by Nationalist forces at the beginning of the Spanish Civil War, in 1936. J.B. Trend (1887-1958), was a British Hispanist and the first Professor of Spanish at the University of Cambridge. After serving in continental Europe during the First World War, he developed a keen interest in Spanish and the historiography of Spanish music. Condition: Good. The pages are clean and tightly bound, except for a couple of small marks on page 1, and some handwriting on the back free end paper. A name is also written in ink on the front free end paper. The hard cover is faded on the spine, plus some handling marks on the fore-edge.
