Frederick O 'Dwyer. Lost Dublin. Gill and Macmillan, 1985. 3rd impression. 1st published 1981. Pb. VG cond. Only small signs of age or of use. No markings. Some 280 ph. and engravings in b & w. Accompanying text in double columns. 12 chapters dividing the city into districts, Glossary, Index of Places and Index of Architects, Artists and Craftsmen. 152pp. Dublin might appear to be a well-preserved city, but this book is a sad reminder of how much has been lost over the years, though still saved from extinction by these splendid photographs with fully annotated summaries of the buildings shown. The author is a practising architect and in a final chapter discusses designs which never made it past the drawing board. This copy PS14.99
