This book was commissioned by the author John Fowles (who lived in Lyme Regis) to commemorate the millenium. He approached the artist Gavin Bird to paint portraits of a personal selection of some of the personalities of Lyme Regis, including local boatmen, a builder, a bookseller, a poet and a playwright. It is a personal book - John Fowles states in the introduction that his choice of subjects is not "in any way properly considered or rational". Cream hardcover with title in gilt on spine. Condition: Very good with very good dust jacket.
