Men Against Death is a series of biographies of the men (and woman) whose researches in the late 19th and early 20th centuries discovered the causes and cures or treatments for major lethal disease of the time. It includes the discovery of insulin by Banting, Alice Evans work on brucellosis in milk. The first treatment for syphilis, sun light treatment for rickets and many others. It is a fascinating read for anyone interested in the history of disease, not just microbiologists and the medical profession. This copy is from 1933, the first publication in Great Britain.
