Mill Life At Styal
Merchant: Oxfam
Merchant's Category: Media> Books
Situated south of Manchester, Styal Village is a remarkable example of a surviving factory community which developed to supply the workforce of nearby Quarry Bank Mill. It was built by Samuel Greg in 1784 as a water powered cotton spinning mill, then given to the National Trust in 1939 by Alec Greg his great, great grandson. The village has been restored and the mill is being developed by a separate charitable trust as a working museum of the cotton industry.
