A UK first edition copy of the autobiography of the pioneering American woman doctor Alfreda Bosworth Withington (1860-1951) who worked in Labrador, in Europe during WWI, then in Kentucky for seven years, with a Preface by Sir Wilfred Grenfell. Red cloth, gilt; very edgeworn and grubby, titles faded, old label mark lower front. Slight general browning, owner inscription to front endpaper, remains of old label to back endpaper. A couple of small marginal marks, otherwise internally clean and well preserved. 268 pp; 16 b&w plates, map. Published 1945, 1st UK edition (first published in US 1941).
