At the millennium, an image flashed around the world of a Kiribati shell trumpeter heralding the new dawn. With its special synchronicity, "Moorcroft" pottery had already created a millennium plate with this same image captured forever in luscious colours and forms. In the third volume of his trilogy, Fraser Street lets readers in on the events following this inspired beginning of a new age. We re-meet old friends such as Alan Wright, sales supremo and Moorcroft's original commercial saviour; Rachel Bishop, senior designer whose inspirations never wane; and always behind the scenes Maureen Edwards, who keeps everything running smoothly, including her husband. Newer friends also reappear, including lauded designer Emma Bossons FRSA. Also on board are tireless club secretary Elise Adams and the formidable Kim Thompson. A new cast of characters includes finance director David Holland, who immediately uncovers a financial anchor dragging "Moorcroft" down. Hovering in the background are the retailers, wondering whether a design is 'right for them'. In this tale "Moorcroft" widens its scope, inviting the United States to join its worldwide family of collectors in Canada, New Zealand and Australia. Some of England's finest country houses also make their debut as part of the Moorcroft scenario, with Chatsworth and Blenheim Palace, among others, hosting special events. Told from the unique vantage point of its chairman Hugh Edwards, writing under his long-established collector persona Fraser Street, the story offers reflections on twenty years of overseeing the living entity that is "Moorcroft" pottery today. Central to the drama is the chairman's almost fatal struggle with a rare illness, making him even more aware of the value of a new dawn for his beloved art pottery. "A New Dawn" covers the years 2001-6 with over 545 colour plates. It also gives full details of tube-liners' and painters' marks: designers' monograms: special retailer's backstamps and date symbols. Written by a collector for "Moorcroft" collectors worldwide, "The New Dawn" is essential reading for anyone with sufficient love of "Moorcroft" to set out and discover the significance of the new dawn in the life of what many describe as the world's finest art pottery.
