Moura Lympany (1916 - 2005) was the last of the major pupils of Britain's greatest pianonteacher, Tobias Matthay (1858 - 1945). She started working with him in 1937 when he was already 79. In 1938 she shot to international fame when she came second to Emil Gilels in the Queen Elisabeth competition. A brilliant technician, she followed in the footsteps of Scharrer and Joyce. This double CD set comes with a short introduction to the works. CD1 22 tracks, including Chopin - Fantasy Impromptu, Op66, Schumann's 'Etudes Symphoniques, Op13 and works by Brahms, Liszt and Debussy CD2 14 tracks including Ravel's Toccata, Three Fantastic Dances by Prokofiev and works by Franck, Turina, Litolff and Mendelssohn
