Vol. III: Comus. Masque by John Milton (c. 1634). Adapted by John Dalton. Music by Thomas Augustine Arne. Published for The Royal Musical Association, London. 'Musica Britannica' volumes were initiated on the occasion of the Festival of Britain 1951. 'Comus' is a masque in honour of chastity. Milton included the work in his Poems of 1645 and 1673. Milton's text was later used for a highly successful masque by the musician Thomas Arne in 1738, which then ran for more than seventy years in London. Used: ink date stamp (1953) top right of first blank page otherwise a Very Good clean copy.
