Merchant's Category:
Stone Age spears were tools for hunting animals. The skills needed to make this tool were developed over many, many generations. A thin, but strong, tree branch was heated by a fire to become flexible then it was straightened by eye to make a smooth shaft for the spear. Next a flintstone was knapped (pressure flaked) by pressing a piece of horn or antler along the edges with great skill. Finally, the shaft was bound to the flintstone head with leather or sinew and at times it was also glued in place with tree sap or pitch (thick natural tar). A great educational aid or accessory to an historical dressing up costume. Key Features: Wooden toy spear Made from wood and hessian from sustainable sources Handmade in England just 18 miles from Stonehenge
