'Never Forget, Nor Forgive: a Japanese Prisoner of War remembers', Captain George T. Cooper, R.N. Navigator Books, 1995. Paperback, 181 pp. Signed by its author. A first edition of this paperback version. Scarce, and much sought-after. Good condition. PS45.00 First published in 1963 by Robert Hale Limited under the different title of 'Ordeal in the Sun', this harrowing account of the torments and indignities suffered by British P.O.W.s under their cruel Japanese guards has become a classic of the genre. Their ship, the 'Exeter' had been sunk in the Java Sea, and the 300 or so survivors were at the mercy of those who had retrieved them from shark-infested waters, and who despised them for not having gone down with their ship. The author appears to have been an admirable officer. Another account of the same ordeal, by one of the men who served under him, remembers him with respect and affection.
