A complete set of Newnes' 'Motor Engineering' Volumes I-IV along with the now rarely found 'Motor Engineering Charts'. The set gives technical guidance for cars and commercial vehicles from the 1930s including makes such as Morris, Wolseley, Chrysler, Humber, Triumph, Rover, Dodge, Singer, Austin, Alvis, Scammell, A.C., Thorneycroft, Dennis, Hillman, Railton, Oldsmobile Hudson, Essex, British Salmson, Standard, Ford, Vauxhall, M.G., Riley, Guy, Dion Bouton, A.E.C., Lea-Francis, Jowett, & Crossley. All four volumes and the charts have dark blue cloth covers measuring 17cm x 23cm with gilt lettering to spine. The books each have 540 pp., including index and are profusely illustrated with hundreds of black and white photographs and line drawings. No dating but certainly published 1930s. The technical charts vehicle models from 1931-1934. The entire set weighs> 6.6 kg. In all: Vol I: Engine Overhauling Repairing & Testing. Vol II: Electrical Equipment & Accessories. Vol. III: Chassis, Bodywork, Brakes & Braking Systems. Vol. IV: Clutches, Gearboxes, Universal Joints, Differentials, Rear Axle & Steering Repairs. 24 x loose leaf charts 30cm x 21.5cm: Brake Layouts. 41 x loose leaf charts 30cm x 22cm: Timings. 1 x fold-out illustrative model 21.5cm x 15.5cm: Compression-Ignition Engine. 1 x fold out illustrative model 21.5cm x 15.5cm: Lucas Cut-Out & Voltage Regulator. In very good condition for the age. The hard covers are intact with almost no bumping or shelf wear. The gilt lettering is perfectly legible. The bindings are very firm in all volumes. Internally the pages are lightly toned with no tears, and only the occasional crease or finger mark. Foxing is confined to the endpapers. The interior pouches of the chart housing is intact with foxing. The charts themselves are clean and intact and fully legible. Some have slightly curled edges.
