Slim paperback in good condition, a little wear to the cover and corners, clean and tight internally (see photos). Published in 1979 by Forfar Historical Society. This is the story of a small area, the old parish of Newtyle, eleven miles north-west of Dundee. It is told in depth and is a social history rather than a political history. It started as a collection of material relating to the railway that connected Newtyle to Dundee from its opening in 1831 to its closure in 1964. This linking of the village to the city of Dundee culminated in a deeply researched account of "A Planned Manufacturing Village".
