" An important auction of Sports, Sports Touring, Competition and Grand Prix cars and associated collectables held at the Nurburgring, Nurburg, Germany on 11th August 2007. Mouth watering photography and auction estimates. Porsche and the Nurburgring - two evocative names inextricably linked after numerous victories for the Stuttgart sports car manufacturer at the daunting track in the Eiffel mountains. Coys will be hoping for similar successes for the many Porsche entries at its forthcoming Nurburgring sale. Of the seven Porsches in the catalogue, the highlights must be the 1966 Porsche 906 Carrera 6, at Euro 400,000 - 450,000, and the 1973 Porsche 911 2.7 RS Touring for Euro 157,500 - 180,000. There's also a rare 1992 Porsche 959 that once belonged to the Schumacher brothers' manager Willi Weber, and has been uprated to 'S - Spec', the flat-six turbocharged engine now producing 'in excess of 500bhp'. Regularly maintained at the Porsche factory since, the red car (repainted at the Stuttgart works) is estimated at Euro 290,000 - 320,000. As the auction is held at the Oldtimer Grand Prix meeting at the Ring, the Porsche 906 isn't the only competition car in the catalogue. The 1966 Lola T70 Spyder Mark II - a car with FIA Papers and estimated at Euro 315,000 - 360,000 was originally delivered to Jim Hall in the USA via the country's Lola importer John Mecom. The bright yellow machine comes with a plethora of spares and would appear to be a strong entry in one of the many historic racing series worldwide. For competitors looking for a closed, GT, alternative there's the blue chip 1965 Ferrari 275 GTB Competizione. You will have to Refer Department for the price of this one, but it's a car that has been raced and rallied extensively, and comes complete with a new fuel cell and FIA standard rollover cage, to bring this Ferrari up to a highly competitive specification. We also like the good starter historic racing saloons both with FIA Papers; the 1965 BMW 1800 TI for Euro 17,000 - 23,000 and the 1965 Lancia Fulvia 1300 Competition at Euro 24,000 - 28,000, and another refer Department car, the 1979 Ferrari 308 Carma FF Porsche 935-beater ran by Carlo Facetti in the late 70s that I seem to remember seeing in-period. It was dramatic.... Racing machinery and Porsches apart, what else is there in the 50+ car catalogue to catch the eye? There's a 1963 AC Cobra 289 ('Refer Department'), a rare in LHD 1960 Bentley S2 Continental "Flying Spur" by Mulliner for Euro 140,000 - 170,000 (a car originally supplied new to HRH Prince Varanand of Siam), a 1972 Lotus Europa Twin Cam (Euro 23,000 - 26,000, and LHD too) and a 1968 Lamborghini Miura LP400 at Euro 250,000 - 300,000. Finally, for those ruing the ever-rising prices of DB Astons, how about an Italian equivalent for a third of a DB4 or 5? The 1963 Maserati 3500 GTi Sebring is estimated at Euro 47,000 - 55,000 and is an elegant 2 + 2 with the classic straight-six (re-engineered for Webers, although the original PI is included in the sale) engine and Vignale coachwork. A nice partner for a new GranTurismo in the Classic Driver garage. " Book in very good condition with clean glossy pages throughout and securely bound. Some minor bumping to the corners of the front cover. Published 2007.
