Of The Imitation Of Christ [a Kempis]

Merchant's Category: Media> Books
The Imitation of Christ is a Christian devotional book first composed in Medieval Latin c1420. It is divided into four books of detailed spiritual instructions emphasising the interior life and withdrawal from the world, as opposed to the active imitation of Christ practised by other friars. The books emphasise devotion to the Eucharist as the key element of spiritual life. The Imitation is perhaps the most widely read Christian devotional work after the Bible, and is regarded as a devotional and religious classic. This is a nicely printed version from about 1865 with red-lined pages and good miniature illustrations and capitals. Title page is especially good. Marbled endpapers with gilded edging. Owner label. Foxing to fly leaves. Light pencil notes throughout probably indicating the dates of use as a reference in a sermon. 353 pages good and clean, gilt edged all round. Very good tight condition. Well worn cover.
