This is one of two long narrative/dramatic poems by this author, and is in three parts, set in 'Ruined Earth Britain, where an old mage named 'Old Rectory' decides to return to society and redeem it. A full set of the three volumes is quite rare. Martyn Skinner (1906-1993) was a British poet, winner of the 1943 Hawthornden Prize for "Letters to Malaya" and the 1947 Heinemann Award for the last volume of that title, or the entire collection. His "most ambitious works were two long narrative poems", or poem sequences. "The Return of Arthur" is set in a Near Future England transformed into a totalitarian Dystopia; but a reborn Arthur from another Dimension returns, and the Matter of Britain is again told as the Millennium approaches". "Old Rectory" is the second of these long works. Our books are all in good condition, bound in paper-covered boards with title etc on labels pasted to the front of each. "The Session" is the largest volume, and has one or two whitish stains on the front, as well as a little damage to the top of the spine. All are beautifully printed on T. H. Saunders laid mould-made paper, with only the top edges trimmed. Each book has the owners' names inscribed on the front fep - in pencil, with an address in London E5 ('The Interview'), and in biro, with a different address, in London N5 ('The Session' & 'Epilogue'). The run size diminishes from 300 copies ('The Interview'), through 250 copies ('The Session') to 150 copies ('Epilogue'). The first 2 volumes include the Rampant Lions Press logo above the limited edition details, but this is missing from the final book (see photo).
