Bollywood musical about love and reincarnation across the decades. In the 1970s, bit-part actor Om Prakash Makhija (Shah Rukh Khan) waits for his big break and dreams of meeting the love of his life, the actress Shantipriya (Deepika Padukone). When their paths finally cross, Om's jubilation turns to pain when he discovers that Shantipriya is already married to studio boss Mukesh Mehra (Arjun Rampal), and that she is pregnant. But before he can decide what to do next, the studio mysteriously burns to the ground, claiming the lives of both Om and Shantipriya. Thirty years later, history repeats itself as Om is reincarnated in the shape of film star Om Kappoor (Khan), who lives a lonely life, until he meets a strangely familiar young actress, Sandhya (Padukone).
