Oswald of Deira, by Georgiana Lady Chatterton author of "Leonore, a Tale and other Poems," etc., published by London: Longman, green, and Co. 1867. This is a drama in verse set in 7th century Winchester, capital of Anglo-Saxon Wessex. Cream cloth boards with a gilt border and floral emblem on the front, and lettering and decoration on the spine and a blind stamped border on the back. The boards corners are bumped, there is wear at the top and bottom of the spine, and the cream colour is dirty but the gilt remains relatively bright. The hinges are unbroken and the spine loose but intact. The print block has bright gilt on all three exposed edges. End-papers are foxed but the rest of the pages are clean. The book was a gift from Lady Chatterton to Dom Peter Joseph Hewitt who has noted this in Latin and signed the title page. A later owner has noted Dom Hewitt's residency and occupation dates thereof on the same page.
