Otomize is a treatment for mild to moderate outer ear infections, known as otitis externa or swimmers ear. Otomize comes in the form of a spray and is a antibacterial treatment. It contains three active ingredients dexamethasone, neomycin sulphate and acetic acid. Each of these works in a different way to either reduce inflammation or fight the infection at its source. What each ingredient does: Dexamethasone : is a corticosteroid. It works by preventing your immune system from producing the chemicals that cause inflammation. Neomycin sulphate : is a broad-spectrum antibiotic. It fights infection by stopping bacteria from producing proteins needed to reproduce. Acetic acid : is an antibacterial agent that creates an acidic environment that bacteria cannot survive in. These ingredients will help ease discomfort, swelling, pain and defeat the cause of the infection. Otomize should not be used: If you have a perforated eardrum (due to increased risk of hearing damage - however some specialists do use this medicine cautiously in people with a perforated eardrum if the infection has not cleared up using other medicines). For babies under two years of age. If you are allergic to one or any of its ingredients.
