The Parthenon chessmen are simply stunning. They are large, elegant and exquisitely finished in ebony and graded boxwood. The design is based on the familiar Staunton lines but have a classical look reminiscent of Greek or Roman architecture. The shanks are very columnar with geometrically fine lines. Each chess piece is well balanced and weighted and polished to a really high sheen using only natural waxes. the 23 inch walnut and maple veneer chess board is made just outside of Barcelona. Sub millimetre precise lines and inlays are supported by grain matched playing squares and a robust matt finish lacquered surface. The rich warm tones of the walnut really suppliment the jet black ebony and yellow boxwood chessmen creating a very sophisticated and charming large chess set.
