Po onom zivote, v nemz nakonec vitezi dobro nad zlem, pravda nad lzi a poctiva prace pros- tych lidi nad panskou zvuli a zahalkou. Translated blurb: In this year, when we commemorate the fortieth anniversary of the death of the great Czech painter Mikolas Als, we are publishing a selection of eight of his loveliest fairy tales for children, written by K.J. Erben and Bozena Nemcova. These are the fairy tales The Firebird and the Fox Ryska, About the Golden Spinning Wheel, Sternberk, About Cinderella, The Godfather Matej, About the Bat and the Kite, Rozkos and Prince Bajaja. Mikolas Ales loved not only folk songs and nursery rhymes, to which he drew hundreds and hundreds of charming and beautiful pictures, but he also liked Czech and Slovak fairy tales, which he decorated with his incomparable art. Als's love for his own children, Tomas, Maryna and Eliska, to whom he loved to read and tell fairy tales, seemed to be stored in these drawings. Als's drawings, however, are forever linked to his love for all children, for those who listened to fairy tales, and for those to whom years later, our fairy tales will develop children's imagination, enrich them with feelings and receptive love for their mother tongue. The drawings that decorate this book were created by Mikolas Ales between 1890 and 1906 and he printed them in Kvety, v Jar and v Volne smer. They are therefore part of the peak period of Als's work, when, after a constant struggle for life and artistic destiny, he returned far back to his childhood, spent in his beloved native region, to which he was bound by a deep love throughout his life. And fairy tales were for him a source of unique beauty and an unbreakable faith in folk wisdom, a fervent confession of faith in the power of the people who so admirably expressed their desire for a righteous life in their fairy tales. After that life in which good finally wins over evil, truth over lies and the honest work of common people over lordly will and idleness. In decent condition considering age of the book; some foxing, and a few central pages coming loose (please see images). Price has been changed to reflect condition.
