Port On The Alde - Snape And The Maltings By Julia Pipe
Merchant: Oxfam
Merchant's Category: Media> Books
Extract from blurb: Snape is one of the few survivors of the small ports once so numerous in coastal areas. Sleepy, apparently, when the tide is out, it is open for business at high water: brimming with salt water enough to permit vessels of 100 tons capacity to make fast at the quay. Ships have traded here for centuries (a Viking longboat was excavated nearby). And the Plough and Sail pub reminds us that farmers hereabouts were often sailors as well - and maybe smugglers, too. This book shows how the history of the port is entwined with the developing life of the district. Condition: Scuffing to rear cover. Tiny stain to corner of the front cover.
