"George Goodwin Kilburne was a British academic painter. Noted for his watercolours that gave particular attention to interior spaces, he rendered charming interiors in fine detail with accurate dimensional space. Aside from his affinity for interiors, Kilburne's work chiefly focuses on Victorian upper-class scenes painted in a traditionally representational manner. Born on July 24, 1839 in London, England, he learned the trade of wood engraving from the Dalziel brothers at an early age. Over the course of his life, Kilburne moved through upper socialite circles, allowing him to further advance his artistic career, thanks in part to his specialization in depicting women that were considered the epitome of Victorian beauty." (Artnet website). This print is of the Borghese Gardens. Not dated but probably c 1860. One of a series published by Cassell, Petter & Gilpin. Ideal framing project. Very good condition for age. Not foxed and retains its tissue guard.
