Prometheus Copper Clay is an easy-to-use base metal clay containing fine copper particles, along with an organic, water-based binder. This 50g packet of Prometheus Copper Clay contains no nickel and supplied ready to use, although it may require rehydrating slightly by adding a small amount of water. The clay can then be shaped, sculpted, moulded, cut or stamped into beautiful copper jewellery designs. By adding tap water and mixing to a thick liquid consistency, the clay can also be made into a copper clay paste. Prometheus Copper Clay can either be torch fired or fired in a kiln, with minimal shrinkage of only 6-10%. Kiln firing is recommended to achieve best results: fire at 920degC for 30 minutes. No carbon or charcoal is required to kiln fire Prometheus Bronze Clay, but items should be wrapped or covered in a kiln pillow during firing. Smaller Prometheus Copper Clay designs (approximately the size and thickness of a 50p coin) can be fired with a torch. Heat the clay and wait for the binder to burn away, then heat until the piece glows a bright red colour and continue to heat for approximately 5-10 minutes. After the clay has been fired, Picklean pickling solution can be used to safely remove oxidisation, before brushing off with a brass brush. When working with Prometheus Copper Clay, Badger Balm or olive oil can be used as a release agent to prevent clay from sticking to hands, tools or work surfaces. Please note this clay is good to use for seven year after the production date provided that the clay is kept in a dry, room temperature environment in the original packaging. The date on the back of the packet is the production date not the best before date.
