The first Gin from the iconic Rainier Brewing Company is an instant favorite. In 1883, Andrew Hemrich, a first-generation German from a family of brew masters, and John Kopp founded Seattle Brewing & Malting and acquired Rabbeson's brewery - the one where Rainier Beer used to be produced. Rainier Beer was first introduced in Washington in Pacific Northwest in 1878: that's 11 years before Washington was even a state! Let that sink in. Rainier Beer was such a huge part in the life of Seattlers (with the huge red neon "R" sign on top of the brewery becoming part the city's skyline) that an urban legend was circling around about Seattle's majestic 14,410-foot mountain being named after the beer - not the other way around as was the case. During the tumultuous times a.k.a. the Prohibtion, the production was moved to California but eventually, it was returned back home and today, Rainier Brewing Company is owned by Pabst Brewing Company. With the red neon "R" is back up again, naturally. Besides their iconic Rainier Beer, the folks in Seattle now also make a true Northwest-style Gin. The last time they put out something that wasn't Beer was during the Prohibition when they were making the Lime Rickey lime soda. Rainier Mountain Fresh Gin is inspired by the forests of the majestic Mount Rainier and it's distilled in small batches with mountain fresh water (obviously) and locally sourced huckleberry, juniper, and spruce.
