The Marmottan Monet museum is devoting its spring exhibition to Raoul Dufy (1877-1953) and Jean Dufy (1888-1964): two brothers, two painters with often crossed artistic paths. For this occasion, around a hundred paintings will be exhibited, most of them coming from private collections and European and American museums. Younger brother of Raoul, Jean trained in painting with the support and encouragement of his brother. First impressed by Matisse and the Fauves, briefly tempted by Cezanne and Cubism, Jean developed, following the example of his brother, a work marked by color and joy of living. Ports and regattas, open windows, bridle paths and paddocks are some of the themes common to their works presented in the exhibition, Le musee Marmottan Monet consacre son exposition de printemps a Raoul Dufy (1877-1953) et Jean Dufy (1888-1964) : deux freres, deux peintres au parcours artistique souvent croise. Pour cette occasion, une centaine de toiles seront exposees, provenant pour la plus grande partie de collections privees et de musees europeens et americains. Frere cadet de Raoul, Jean se forme a la peinture avec le soutien et les encouragements de son frere. D'abord impressionne par Matisse et les fauves, brievement tente par Cezanne et le cubisme, Jean developpe, a l'exemple de son frere, une oeuvre marquee par la couleur et la joie de vivre. Ports et regates, fenetres ouvertes, allees cavalieres et paddocks sont quelques uns des themes communs a leurs oeuvres presentees dans l'exposition, ou pres de cent peintures sont montrees en regard les unes des autres pour mieux mettre en evidence ce qui les unit et ce qui les singularise.
