History of Currency in the Sultanate of Oman The Sultanate of Oman has a rich history of currency, dating back centuries. The use of currency in Oman can be traced back to the ancient times, with the use of silver and gold coins as a means of exchange. However, it was during the reign of Sultan Said bin Taimur in the 20th century that modern currency was introduced in Oman. In 1940, the Sultanate of Oman began issuing its own currency in the form of coins, known as the Omani rial. The rial was initially pegged to the British pound, with an exchange rate of 13.33 rials to one pound. In 1970, when Sultan Qaboos bin Said came to power, he made several changes to the country's economic and financial system, including the introduction of a new currency, the Omani rial and baisa. The Omani rial is the highest-valued currency unit in the world, with one rial equaling 2.60 US dollars as of 2021. It is divided into 1000 baisa, which is the subunit of the rial. The Central Bank of Oman is responsible for issuing and regulating the country's currency. Over the years, the bank has introduced several new banknotes and coins to keep up with the country's growing economy and evolving financial system. Today, the Omani rial remains the official currency of Oman and is widely accepted throughout the country. Overall, the history of currency in the Sultanate of Oman reflects the country's rich cultural heritage and economic development, from the use of ancient coins to the introduction of modern banknotes and electronic payment systems. The condition of the book is very good and the pages inside the book are clean.
