Saint-Sebastien by Karim Ressouni-Demigneux. Text in French. Sebastian is unquestionably one of the most popular saints of Christendom. Even today, the image of his martyrdom, his naked body pierced with arrows, haunts many churches in Europe, most museums and even contemporary art galleries, because there are always artists to represent him, to seize his figure as a subject. Of him, however, we know nothing, except that he existed. Thus, the only proven trace of his presence are these few words of the Depositio martyrum which place his birthday on January 20. It is therefore this dreamed-up, magnified Sebastian who made and still makes this extraordinary career in the Western world, passing over the centuries from the envied status of great patron of Rome to that, more troubled, of offered and equivocal body, that after having known his greatest glory by playing the important role, at the end of the Middle Ages and throughout the Renaissance, of patron saint against the main scourge of the time, the plague. The condition of the book is very good and the pages inside the book are clean.
