Reduced The Bbc: The First Fifty Years By Asa Briggs
Merchant: Oxfam
Merchant's Category: Media> Books
Asa Briggs, author of a detailed and widely acclaimed four-volume history of British broadcasting from its beginnings to the break-up of the BBC's monopoly, turns in this new volume to the first fifty years of BBC history (1922-72). His story is not an abridgement of the four bigger volumes, which were based mainly on BBC archives, but, like them, makes use of hitherto unpublished primary sources, while adding material from a wide variety of sources outside the BBC. It puts the history of the BBC as an institution in national and international perspective, and relates it to changes in society, culture, and politics. Minor shelf wear on the dustjacket. Otherwise in very good condition.
