Merchant's Category: Media> Books
Scarce copy of English translation of this major biography of Robert de Montesquiou (1855-1921); a French Symbolist poet, painter, art collector and fashionable aesthete. A "notorious homosexual", he has been thought to be the inspiration for Oscar Wilde's 'Dorian Gray'. Translated by John Haylock and Francis King. This copy has no dust jacket, but is in very good condition. Tight binding in maroon boards with gilt lettering to the spine, showing very little sign of handling. Minor fading to purple tinted top of text block. Decorated endpapers. Contents very clean and bright. Illustrated with reproductions of b&w photographs.
