A rare volume of work by Hugh Dalrymple. Signed by the Author with many manuscript interlineations in the same hand. Book comprises Cantos 1 & 2 published in 1763, and Canto 3 published in 1770. Second Edition. Synopsis: A political satire upon the events of the age with "Rodondo" as the main character. He is identified as William Pitt. The original text is contemporaneous with the prosecution of John Wilkes for seditious libel in 1763., to which reference is made. Many references to political figures of the day. The author, Hugh (Hew) Dalrymple (d 1774) was an Edinburgh lawyer who became Attorney General of Grenada, West Indies where he died. He was the father of Grace Elliott, a famous figure in the French Revolution. Condition: Soft vellum covers, discoloured and stained. Some damage to spine. Internal staining , some damage to corners and minor paper tears apparent. Title page becoming detached otherwise binding in fair condition for its age.
