The centenary of Sabden's "birth" in 1904 provided the spur for the authors to mark it with a photographic and verbal recording of their adopted villages's past and present. Still centred around the ancient Sabden Bridge and washed by Sabden Brook under ever-present Pendle, the village's story is told from its pre-industrial Revolution days. Fast streams attracted early factory-builders such as the Burys to this pastoral part of Lancashire. With the textile factories came houses built of local stone for the workers . To cater for the villagers spiritual needs arose churches and chapels, very much part of today's scene .Families ,farms and leisure activities are part of Sabden's lifeblood and play a big part in the fabric of this book. Audrey Barrett is a retired teacher who still has strong connections with the village school. David Eaves works as a graphic designer ( he designed this book ) in Rossendale. Both are relative "incomers" but theit involvement and interest in , and commitment to, Sabden could not be greater.
