Screeching Weasel: First World Manifesto (Punk rock) Released by Fat Wreck Records 2011 - NEW Vinyl LP in shrink wrap Black vinyl w/ regular jacket Not satisfied to rest on their laurels, Screeching Weasel reformed and completed their first new material in 11 years. Comprised of 14 tracks, First World Manifesto has all the hallmarks of an instant Weasel classic. The Screeching Weasel punk rock band out of Chicago, Illinois was and still is the on/off love child of Ben Weasel but has been dragged through the transmogrification process more times than most of us have had hot dinners. Ben Weasel has been the one and only constant factor in all of the rebirths and from that it might be surmised that he possibly does not have a diploma in man management and interpersonal skills. Perhaps these years of change have made him bitter because in "First World Manifesto", there lies an undertone of sourness that finds even the most upbeat melodies dedicated to failures, frustrations, or individuals that have wronged him. Every track is carefully constructed for maximum pace and emotional sledge-hammering and the new guys in the band form a complimentary platform for Ben's frenetic and nasal vocals. Despite being all a bit on the 'grunge' misery side and shouting out to the listeners "We're sneering at everybody and everything, and all others are a load of crap", there is some very good punk rock being offered foremost among which are "Dry Is The Desert", "Come And See The Violence Inherent In The System", and my personal choice "Speed Up Mutation". Maya Angelou wrote " Bitterness is like cancer. It eats upon the host. But anger is like fire. It burns all clear." Ben Weasel might do well to reflect on these words and then look around him when he might find that the world outside of his own immediate environs may not be such a bad place after all - on balance! Come on Ben, love us all a tiny bit more, and we might like you a whole lot more. Track Listing: 1. Follow Your Leaders 2. Frankengirl 3. Beginningless Vacation 4. Dry Is The Desert 5. Totem Pole 6. Creepy Crawl 7. Three Lonely Days 8. Friday Night Nation 9. All Over Town 10. Fortune Cookie 11. Baby Talk 12. Come And See The Violence Inherent In The System 13. Bite Marks 14. Little Big Man
