Siegfried Sassoon Diaries: 1915-1918, 1920-1922, 1923-1925 - Siegfried Sassoon, edited and introduced by Rupert Hart-Davis, Set of 3. Published by Faber and Faber Limited, ISBNs and publication dates as follows: 1915-1918: 1983 0571119972 1920-1922: 1981 057111685X 1923-1925: 1985 0571133223 Siegfried Sassoon was almost 28 when he enlisted on 3rd August 1914. It was the terrible impact of the Western Front which turned him from an amateur versifier into a poet. These diaries, written in tiny notebooks, sometimes in pencil, often by the light of a solitary candle in a dugout or billet, provided the material for his first three prose books, including Memoirs of an Infantry Officer. The published books had a thin veil of fiction drawn over the events described, whereas these diaries are raw, immediate reports on events as they happened. Condition: Very good. All the volumes are similar in condition: all are clean inside and out, apart from a thin layer of dust along the top page edges of each. All three volumes are faded on the dust jacket spine, with the '1915-1918' volume having a small tear at the top of the spine.
