Singers in the Marketplace: The Economics of the Singing Profession by Ruth Towse This study examines the economics of the singing profession in Britain, particularly in relation to the training of "classical" singers, performers and teachers. It is based on research carried out between 1988 and 1990, during which time Ruth Towse amassed much information. She analyzes the complexities of the labour market for singers, and answers such questions as how singers train? What employment is available? How much do singers earn? While the outlook is that of an economist, the language used is tailored to a wider audience, and young artists generally. Those involved in arts administration and the training and education of singers and musicians should find the book of interest to them. Ruth Towse is co-editor of "Cultural Economics" with A. Khakee. The condition of the book is very good and the pages inside the book are clean.
