Published 1930 by Pitman. First edition. Hardback. Green cloth board covers with gilt lettering on front and spine. No dust jacket. Slight shelf wear to covers with some fading of the gilt. Inside pages are age-tanning but remain clean and tightly bound. Condition is still good. Illustrated with at least 40 black and white plates, many diagrams and a frontispiece of John Logie Baird. First edition of this important work, aimed at the general reader and amateur constructor, and one of the earliest works on television. Sydney Moseley was Baird's business manager and a tireless enthusiast for his work, and this book is as close as we get to Baird's own account of his work. It is a strong defence of Baird and gives an extended account of the battle with the B.B.C. It is as Moseley says "a piquant history of television as I knew it at first hand, but the subject has grown out of hand". An important book that traces the development of television from its beginnings in 1926 to 1930. Will be of great interest to anyone interested in the mechanics of early television. Foreword by John Logie Baird.
