Ten Years All In: the Story of a Comprehensive School - Stephen King. Published by John Baker (Publishers) Ltd., hardback with dust jacket, 1969. This book is a history of one comprehensive school over ten years. A comprehensive school is a secondary school for pupils aged 11-16 or 11-18, that does not select its intake on the basis of academic achievement or aptitude, in contrast to a selective school system where admission is restricted on the basis of selection criteria, usually academic performance. At the time, the comprehensive school system was fairly new: the first comprehensive schools were set up after World War II in 1946, although the first few were deemed 'experimental'. Condition. Book: Good. Inside, the book is nice and clean and tightly bound. The page edges have a small foxing mark on the bottom, and a lot of dust along the top. On the front paste-down is a small bookshop sticker. A signature in red pen is on the front free end paper. Dust jacket: Fair. The top edge has a little wear and tear, the fore-edge is a little tanned and the spine is faded and foxed.
