The Acceptable Face

Paperback book of portrait photographs of British politicians, taken in 1991/1992. Some wear to cover edges and top of spine (see pictures) but otherwise good condition inside. At a time when politicians are coming under closer scrutiny than ever before, Nick Sinclair's portraits of prominent Parliamentarians seem particularly pertinent as he seeks out the men and women behind the public persona in this collection of full-face, larger-than-life close-ups. Sinclair's photographs make no concessions to conventional notions of decorum and are thus uncompromisingly confrontational and ruthlessly analytical. The result is a memorable group of portraits. Featured among the formidable line-up of 55 familiar faces are Tony Benn, Barbara Castle, Roy Hattersley, Denis Healey, Douglas Hurd, Neil Kinnock, Cecil Parkinson, Enoch Powell, Dennis Skinner and Norman Tebbit. Nick Sinclair is one of Britain's most exciting and thoughtful young photographers. His work has been exhibited in Europe and the UK.
