A history of the Admiralty Hydrographic Service from 1795 to 1919. The author of this book is Vice-Admiral Sir Archibald Day. From Wikipedia "Vice-Admiral Sir Archibald Day, KBE, CB, DSO was an officer in the Royal Navy and Hydrographer of the Navy from 1950-1955. He played an important part in planning the evacuation from Dunkirk in 1940, and wrote a history of the Hydrographic Service." Please see images 3 & 4 for more details on both this book and the author (from inside flaps of the d/j that have been neatly pasted in by the previous owner). This book is also signed by Sir Archibald Day himself (see image 2). There are a few fold-out hydrographic maps which are in very good condition (see image 6 for a detail of one of these). Apart from the signature, there are a few ink stamps and messages written in biro on the inside of the front cover (see image 5 for description of the presentation of this copy) and the rear-facing end paper. Otherwise, no annotations or highlights throughout.
