The Manual of Seamanship Volume I is originally from 1908 but this is the revised and reprinted version from 1915. Produced on Authority of the Lords Commissioners of the Admiralty. Printed under the authority of his Majesty's Stationery Office by Sir Joseph Causton & Sons LTD 1915. Original price 3s. 6d. Net. The Seamanship Manual is divided into two parts. Volume I. Comprises such information in the elements of Modern Seamanship as is necessary for the instruction of Naval Cadets, Boy and Youths in the Harbour Training Establishments, and Volumes I. and II., taken in conjunction, are intended to serve as a convenient text-book for the use of sub-Lieutenants, Midshipmen, and Petty Officers and men desirous of qualifying for higher ratings. The Lords Commissioners of the Admiralty wish to acknowledge the courtesy of Captain Austin M. Knight, United States Navy, in allowing the unreserved use of his "Modern Seamanship," published by J. D. Potter, 145, Minories, London, in the revision of the Seamanship Manual: also od commander Wilfrid Henderson, Royal Navy, for the use of his "Seamanship," published by Griffin and Co., of Portsmouth; and of James Brown and Son, of Glasgow, for the use of the "Kot Book and Ships' Lights."
