The Battle of Navarino. By C M Woodhouse. Published by Hodder and Stoughton. 1965. First edition. 191pp. Hbk. Contains 19 B&W photos and 2 maps of the action area. The Battle of Navarino was fought off the west coast of Greece in 1827. It was one of the major sea battles of UK history and with the exception of Trafalgar the most decisive engagement of the 19th century. This was the first book on the subject to be published. Admiral Codrington was a naval officer in the highest tradition of skill and integrity and concern for the men under his command, it outlines. For political reasons he was discredited but was finally rehabilitated. A must read for anyone interested in naval history. The book is in good condition with some minor creasing to the edges of the jacket, particularly the top of the spine. The pages are lightly tanned. There is foxing on the page ends. The red boards are bright and there are red maps on the endpages. Clean throughtout and tightly bound with a former owner inscription in ink at the front.
