The Battle Of The Somme
Merchant: Oxfam
Merchant's Category: Media> DVDs & Videos
In the long and well-documented history of WWI, There is one battle that remains an unforgettable reminder of the savage and punishing cost of human conflict. The Somme Offensive took place in the middle of the war, from July to November 1916m and saw the armies of France and Britain face off against the Germanic Empire on either side of the the River Somme in northern France. Employing outdated tactics, Allied generals ordered their troops 'over the top' and into 'no-mans-land', only for vast swathes of men to be gunned down by the Germans' machine guns. It was carnage of unprecedented proportions and by the time the battle ended, more than 1 million men had been killed or wounded. Box and disc in very good condition.
