The Beacon At Alexandria is a fictional story telling of the last few days of Rome in the Eastern Empire. Gillian Bradshaw, a historical author brings to life the story of a woman called Charis, whom is the daughter of a noble family. She grows up as a student in secret to Hippocrates and Galen. As she also battles with an oppressive society. After she is pressed for an unwanted marriage proposal, Charis flees to Alexandria with the noble pursuit to study medicine, however, due to the the way society viewed woman during that times, she has to undertake a disguise of a man in order to try and attempt to achieve that goal. Gillian Bradshaw has multiple notable achievements in her novels, her focus appears to be on Authoritarian Britain, of which she has written many novels about, most notably, Hawk Of May and Kingdom Of Summer among others. The condition of the book is very good, the front and back cover of the dust jacket is in great shape, likewise is the spine. The pages show no signs of physical damage or foxing.
