The Beautiful Englishman
Merchant: Oxfam
Merchant's Category: Media> Books
Described by Marie Antoinette as the 'beautiful Englishman', the extravagant Rev. Dr. Thomas Sedgwick Whalley was a playwright, poet, cleric, horticulturist, traveller and bon vivant, who socialised among such influential figures as William Wilberforce and Hannah More. Drawing from source material including Whalley's own journals - edited and published by his nephew - as well as personal correspondence, this is a colourful portrait of the Georgian socialite, recalling his life, his loves and his many travels. The book is in excellent condition showing only very slight signs of wear on the cover edges. All inside pages are clean.
