The Chancery Under Edward Iii
Merchant: Oxfam
Merchant's Category: Media> Books
The Court of Chancery was a court of equity that existed from the Norman Conquest until the 1870's, when its role was taken over by the High Court of Justice. Beginning with the nature of the office of chancery and what powers it held, as well as its organisation and importance. Wilkinson then looks at the chancery prior to Edward III, followed by a look at the chances implemented under the king, including the courts permanent seat at Westminster Hall. It finishes by looking at the people within the chancery, including Chancellors and clerks. A comprehensive overview of the Chancery in this period, perfect for any medieval or political historian. The book is in very good condition, with the black cloth on board showing only a few minor marks and the gilt lettering on the spine still clear. Internally, besides a personal message written inside the front cover from 1956, the pages are clean and the binding strong. A great reading, reference, or collecting copy.
