The Chevalier Bayard: A Study in Fading Chivalry by Samuel Shellabarger Undated but possibly 1930 Samuel Shellabarger (1888 - 1954) was an American educator and author of both scholarly works and best-selling historical novels. The Chevalier Bayard is a history of the XIV and XV centuries, 'The Age of Chivalry." Pierre Terrail LeVieux, seigneur de Bayard (1473 - 1524), was a French soldier, generally known as the Chevalier de Bayard. As a soldier, Bayard was considered the epitome of chivalry and one of the most skillful commanders of the age. In fair condition. Discolouration to free endpapers, pastedowns and edges. Top corners of pp. 280-300 are bumped, back hinge is becoming unstuck. Spine is damaged, boards are discoloured and show signs of heavy wear. Front free endpaper is inscribed in black ink.
