( Ed.) Stephen Benson. The Collected Poems of Drummond Allison. Privately printed in a limited edition of 300 copies. VG+ cond. in VG dj. only a little marked. An excellent copy for its age which is probably c.1980, certainly after 1978. Introduction of 20 pages by the Editor and Preface by the Headmaster of Bishop Stortford School who seems to be responsible for this publication. At the back, notes on the poems, three poems dedicated to Allison and 3 critical appreciations by Walter Strachan, Anthony Thwaite and Ian Hamilton. Some b & w ph. showing family and war scenes. 213pp. Allison was a Second World War poet (he was killed in action in December 1943) who has perhaps been unfairly neglected. He has been admired by many critics including Geoffrey Grigson and Anthony Thwaite and, it would seem, revered by his old school, Bishop Stortford. This must surely be the definitive collection of his poems.
