Charles Lamb was born in 1775, he went to school and became life-long friends with Samuel Taylor Coleridge, made other famous acquaintances including Wordsworth, worked as a clerk for the East India Company and became a famous essayist of the time. The essays in this volume include Witches and Other Night Fears, Grace Before Meat and The Praise of Chimney Sweeps among many others. Odhams series circa 1930, scarce with the original jacket although this is torn and aged. Foxing on the edges of the text.
