The Falconer's Knot by Mary Hoffman with inscription by the author. Paperback edition published in 2008 by Bloomsbury Publishing Plc. (Shortlisted for the Guardian Fiction Award and winner of the French Prix Polar Jeunesse 2009) and Troubadour(nominated for the 2010 Carnegie Medal and shortlisted for the Costa Book Award). Mary Hoffman is an acclaimed children's writer and critic, has three grown-up children, and lives with her husband in West Oxfordshire. Silvano and Chiara are two teenagers, with a difference, driven from their homes by danger and cruelty. Silvano has been accused of a murder he did not commit and Chiara has been ousted from her family as a young woman with no marriage prospects. For these two very different reasons they are forced to seek refuge in a neighbouring convent and friary. When they meet they are instantly aware that they are both outsiders and as they learn to trust each other, they confide how they have both been unfairly treated. Then a grisly murder - followed by another, and then another - strikes fear into the close-knit community. Chiara and Silvano cling together within the terrifying spiral of murder as they, and the friends they have made, attempt to solve the deadly mystery becoming victims - or suspects- themselves. A thrilling medieval mystery from the acclaimed author, Mary Hoffman. Condition: The book is in good condition with some minor signs of wear. The cover and spine are sound and all inside pages are tight and clean. However there is evidence of fanning when the book is stood on its end. The title page has a small imprint of writing in the top right corner and carries the inscription " For Quincy - Thank you for your lovely introduction! All good wishes - Mary Hoffman".
